Course Description
The
field of Air Conditioning Maintenance, Repair and Installation is
one of the most lucrative and vital of all the skilled trades. The
outlook for employment is excellent. There is a tremendous current
demand for skilled technicians and there should be a steady expansion
of the field through the foreseeable future. Air Conditioning / Refrigeration
is a two year course. In this program the student’s time is
divided between the laboratory and theory or related class work. It
is designed for job entry level as an installer, serviceman or technician
helper. The course covers troubleshooting, service and repair of domestic
and commercial systems. Covered in the domestic field are home refrigerators,
freezers and window air conditioners. Covered in the commercial field
are grocery store and supermarket units, beverage coolers, central
A/C, small chillers and ice machines. The course also includes refrigerant
recovery and review for the Environmental Protection Agency (E.P.A.)
Technician Certification Examination. Upon completion of the program
students also qualify for the Refrigeration / Air Conditioning System
Operations Engineer’s (F.D.N.Y. –R.M.O.) license. A textbook
will be required for this course. This course ranks highly among the
specialties involved in the MTA’s `Express to Success’
