Green Construction/Carpentry (Interior and Exterior)

Course Description

Our Framing Carpentry program seeks to prepare our students for entry level employment as carpenters in both new construction and renovation applications. This course is designed to provide hands-on installation of doors, windows, and roofing along with interior finish operations such as drywall, trim – joinery and molding. It also presents basic theory including occupational math, trade related formulas designed to refresh basic mathematics skills related to the trade of Carpentry. Students learn a production method for translating blueprints to wall plates and framing a house from the foundation up. An introduction to machine carpentry including how to safely set up and use traditional shop tools such as the table saw, drill press, jointer, thickness planer, radial arm saw, band-saw and router are components of the curriculum. This course is included among the specialties involved in the MTA’s `Express to Success’ program.
